There are 919,559 hospital beds in the USA (https://www.aha.org/statistics/fast-facts-us-hospitals). And we average somewhere around 70 percent of beds occupied at any given time. At peak 14% of hospital beds in the USA were occupied by COVID positive patients. Now many beds were vacated so hospital bed utilization rates never got near 84%. Even during the second wave the hospital system was not near capacity. Flattening the curve worked… back in April 2020.
